Desmos activity with self checking

My formal observation is coming soon,

With God's grace I was able to create a Desmos activity using computation layer for students to get inmediate feedback

The lesson is discovering properties for Factored form quadratics.

Reviewing the basics before division of polynomials

This year I have students in Algebra 2 that have to be there, they are levels 1 or 2.

I need to go into dividing polynomials, my plan was

1. Dividing polynomials by monomials

2. Long division

3. synthetic division.

I needed for them to feel better about dividing monomials, so I changed plans, do first a lesson of simplifying fractions using prime factorization. where they have to show the factor tree, how factors in numerator and denominator cancel out. It work they were working well 95% the other 5% were waiting too cheat :(

For the ones who worked they felt much confident dividing monomials,

Here is the worksheet I made for them to practice Worksheet

Online math worksheets to use e-learning

I found great websites to use with my kids in our e-learning class

teachermade.com

classkick. com

and my favorite of all: wordwall.net

One more week before winter break :)

E-learning, Coloring Activity Polynomials review

I love coloring, cut and paste. Before the pandemic I used to give coloring and cut and paste activities for my High School students. After switching online I missed it. looking into teacherpayteachers there was a coloring activity for elementary using google forms, the light bulb came on.

Today I finished a coloring activity using google forms. a short review for standard form, leading coefficient, degree, adding subtracting functions, I like the final result. I uploaded in teacherspayteachers for a free download. I hope other teachers can benefit from it:)

formal observation dice activity

I just started composition of functions and I my formal observation was two days away.
The kids struggled with the concept. In addition to the lesson I incorporated cut and paste activity and a nice dice activity. I posted QR around the room where kids could check their answers. It was not a quite class. but I can say kids were working.

QR codes in class

I started using QR codes in my class, I like the engagement of the kids. they are so attach to their phones that gave me an opportunity to use them as a tool in the class.

Use 1: to self check answers

for any worksheet I type the answer for 1 question copy and paste it in a QR generator. I print the QR, label the question number and posted around the classroom. Today there were 9 QR for the kids to check their answers. If the student did not get the correct answer and after checking his her work came to me for help. It took off many of "did I get it right?", " Can You check if I got the right answer?"

Use 2: To direct the kids to a google form used as scavenger hunt
If you want to check it out here is one of them

Or if you prefer the link

That's all for now :)

The Discriminant

It is the time for my kids to learn the quadratic formula.
I was amazed of how many mistakes the kids made using the calculator. (PEMDAS issues) :(

I made this activity to help them practice finding the discriminant. It helped them to identify their mistakes. They worked Yooo hoo

Feel free to use it in your classroom

I forgot, student attached their work: identifying a,b,c and step by step how they plugged it in b^2-4ac
